Who you are working with
Stratum & Oak is a one person software practice based in Chandler, Arizona, serving businesses across the Phoenix metro and beyond.
The background is slightly unusual for a developer. The degree is a bachelor of science in psychology from Arizona State University, earned in 2015, and it turned out to be the most useful possible training for this work. Psychology is the study of why people do what they do, which is exactly the question underneath every serious question in web development. Why did a visitor leave that page. Why does nobody click the button we were sure about. Why does the staff quietly refuse to use the tool that was built for them.
Since 2015 the work has been search engine optimization and web development, side by side, in agency environments where results were measured and reported to clients who cared about the number. That is a decade of watching what actually moves traffic and what merely looks impressive in a proposal.
Agencies teach you speed and standards. Running your own systems teaches you what happens after launch, when the thing has to keep working.
The practice is deliberately small. You work directly with the person who architects your database, writes your code, and answers when something needs attention. Nothing is handed off, and nothing is outsourced. Two systems in production are documented in detail, one of them a business we run ourselves.
